YOU KNOW I LOVE TWO-YEAR-OLD RACES

TO MY IMPULSE AND ENJOYMENT AND SATISFACTION, THERE IS ANOTHER VERY EXCITING TWO-YEAR-OLD JUST UNVEILED!


On Sunday September 7, 2025, at Del Mar, race 6, a two-year-old colt named Boyd won a maiden special weight 5 1/2-furlong race very impressively, romping home by 5 1/2 lengths (geared down late) against a very good group of two-year-olds, including his stable mates Cherokee Nation who cost $1.15 million at the 2024 Keeneland September yearling sale, and Rhodes who was acquired for $550,000 at the same auction.

All three horses are trained by Bob Baffert who is loaded with two-year-olds this year with Brant winning the Del Mar Futurity one hour earlier.

Boyd's final time for the 5 1/2-furlong is 1:02.79 and the track record for 5 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar is listed as 1:01.88, making Boyd's time about 4/5 of a second of tying the track record.

Boyd won the race geared down late and still ran 1:02.79.

He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 92.

Boyd's final time of 1:02.79 is almost the same as Brant's final time of 1:02.63 for his debut race on July 26, 2025 (also at Del Mar) for the 5 1/2-furlong distance.

Sent off as the even-money favorite, Boyd was hustled out to the early lead and was easily in control throughout with the fractions of 21.32 :43.91 :56.02 with the final time of 1:02.79 -- and in comparison, Brant ran the seven-furlong distance (Del Mar Futurity) on the front end as well with fractions of :21.88 :44.53 1:09.11 with the final time of 1:21.92.


That is very impressive for both Brant and Boyd for running that fast as a two-year-old this time of the year in their respective debut race.

As for the Del Mar Futurity won by Brant -- once again Brant was impressive but as I said it before -- I think Brant is a miler who may be able to run a mile and one-eight but not a mile and one-quarter Derby distance.

Brant earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 91 for winning the Del Mar Futurity.

As for Boyd -- even though he won on the lead, he looks like a mile and a quarter type of horse as he is by Violence out of the Street Boss mare A Taste Of Red who was unraced.

He is trained by Bob Baffert and owned by Zedan Racing Stables, and Boyd was bred in Kentucky.

Boyd is a half-brother to Microcap who earned $284k during her racing career.

I've been watching/following Boyd since he was purchased for $1.05 million at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale in May (2025).

Boyd showed his first workout on June 2, 2025, for a 2-furlong workout in 24.20 (h).

It is unlikely that Baffert will target the Breeders' Cup Juvenile for Boyd as it is not enough time for Boyd to have another race into him leading to the Breeders' Cup.

So it looks like Boyd will run in other two-year-old stakes races and/or allowance races in the fall, perhaps, at Los Al stakes or allowance races at Del Mar in November/December 2025 to get him seasoned and prepare for the spring classic 2026.

That is something for me to look forward to in the meantime for this exciting two-year-old Boyd!

The sky is the limit for this two-year-old!


As for Brant, he is heading to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile as one of the favorites, if not the favorite.

I say that because there are two other horses that I think could end up as the favorite for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and those two are Ted Noffey, trained by Todd Fletcher, and the other is It's Our Time, trained by Tom Amoss.

Ted Noffey is scheduled to run in the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity (G1) at Keeneland on Saturday, October 4, 2025, while It's Our Time is scheduled to run in the Champagne (G1) Stakes at Aqueduct (also) on October 4, 2025.

Depending on how those two do in their respective race, either one of them could be the favorite for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile 2025 -- but as of now, Brant is the early favorite for that race.

It will be an exciting race and I'm looking forward to that race and I can't wait until that race -- but meanwhile, I'm as anxious to see them race on Saturday October 4, 2025 as well as the Breeders' Cup Juvenile 2025.

First thing first, though: The races on Saturday October 4, 2025, which could tell us who the favorite will be for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile 2025.
