General Partner vs Fierceness in the Champagne Stakes on October 7

General Partner, a four-length maiden winner going seven furlongs on Saturday September 2, 2023, will target the Grade 1, $500,000 Champagne Stakes on Oct. 7 at Aqueduct, trainer Chad Brown said.

This sets up a clash between two of the East Coast's flashiness two-year-olds of 2023.

General Partner, a son of Speightstown, finished fourth to Valentine Candy in his debut July 22, 2023.

On Saturday (September 2, 2023), General Partner was sent to the lead by Irad Ortiz Jr. and led at every pole, winning by four lengths and earning a solid 92 Beyer Speed Figure.

Fierceness, for his part, got a Beyer Speed Figure of 95 in his debut race on August 25 (2023), 6th race at Saratoga in a Maiden Special Weight ($105k).

Fierceness won that 6-furlong maiden special weight race (August 25, 2023), at Saratoga as an 11-10 favorite, leading all the way to trounce a very good field by 11 1/4 lengths while setting fast fractions of 22:04 44:65 seconds and enroute to a fast final time of 1:09:56.

Fierceness is trained by Todd Fletcher.

And they could be joined by another Todd Fletcher's flashy 2-year old who galloped to a 7 1/4-length victory on September 1, 2023, at Saratoga, earning a 96 Beyer Speed Figure.

That horse's name is called Locked who debuted on September 1, 2023, 5th race, Saratoga, MdSpWt105k, with a Beyer of 96, in a one-mile race in 1:36 -- winning by 7 1/4 lengths.
