CANTERBURY PARK'S NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL

HAPPY NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL EVERYONE!

Picks for Canterbury Park Saturday June 22, 2024

LET'S SPEND OUR NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL WEEKEND BETTING CANTERBURY RACES

AND WHAT BETTER THING TO DO THAN BETTING HORSES ON MULTIPLE RACES -- YES, MULTIPLE RACES!

SO THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS TO USE A BETTING METHOD CALLED "PARLAY BETTING".

In a parlay betting, we choose three races of our own choosing, and those three races that we choose are called legs: 1st leg, 2nd leg, and 3rd leg.

In the parlay betting, we need to look for the last leg (leg three) first, and then after that, we look for the other two legs (1st and 2nd leg) later.

But the other two legs (1st and 2nd leg) must come or go off before the last leg, the 3rd leg.

So knowing that, we must find the third leg and the other two legs accordingly.

AS STATED ABOVE THE FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO IS TO LOOK FOR THE THIRD LEG HORSE FIRST AND THEN LOOK FOR THE OTHER PRECEDING TWO LEGS HORSES NEXT.

LET'S DO THAT NOW!

ON CANTERBURY PARK'S NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL SATURDAY CARD WE HAVE A "CINCH" HORSE IN NAVY SEAL (IRE) [ML 9-5] IN THE CANTERBURY DERBY (race 7) ON THE GRASS (assuming it stays on grass) -- MORE ABOUT THAT LATER -- BUT FOR NOW, WE'LL USE HIM AS OUR 3RD LEG HORSE FOR THE NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL PARLAY SPECIAL.

To tell you the truth, I'm not much of an expert on Canterbury races due to the fact that Canterbury runs short programs (3 days a week) and short season (a few months out of the year -- not all year round like other tracks.)

For those reasons, I'll defer to the expert -- our very own Angela Hermann.

Now that's an expert horse racing personality that you want and should follow for her insightful analyses and picks.

So yeah, I encourage you all to follow her and listen to her insightful analyses and picks.

As for this special day I will attempt to make the Northern Stars Turf Festival with a "BANG!"

The idea is to build up as much money for the last leg as you can since the last leg is a cinch horse and the odd on the last leg is likely to be a very short price horse.

In my opinion, the last leg horse Navy Seal (Ire) is a cinch horse -- meaning, he is very likely to win the Canterbury Derby if it stays on the grass.

Now the bad news is that the weather forecast for Saturday evening calls for torrential rain 3 to 5 inches of rains starting at 5 p.m. (central time) and lasts until 10 p.m. (central time) - basically overlapping the entire Canterbury card.

So the whole card will most likely be interrupted and delayed by torrential rain, and perhaps races on grass may be taken off as well.

Having said that, I will assume that our parlay races will go on as scheduled on turf.

Now what's left is to find the other two legs horses (both are on grass) and here they are:

This is the first leg.

LET'S START THE NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL PARLAY WITH A BANG!

1 Mile | Fillies | 3 Year Olds | HANDICAP | PURSE: $40,000

Track: Canterbury Park

Surface: Turf

Race: 2

Horse: Xtreme Smoke Show (ML 5-1)

Field (in post position order):

1. Retired Kathy (ML 5-2)
2. Tour Queen (ML 4-1)
3. Barbsdreamcometrue (ML 5-1)
4. Pink Lady Lu Sha (ML 12-1)
5. Omega Ms (ML 9-2)
6. Hattie Bloom (ML 10-1)
7. Rainbow Angel (ML 8-1)
8. Xtreme Smoke Show (ML 5-1)

Bet Xtreme Smoke Show (ML 5-1) to win and place using double down betting strategy.

Xtreme Smoke Show's final odd will most likely be right around 7/1 as somewhat of a longshot in the betting.

Yes, this qualifies as my "Longshot Play of the Week" -- if not for the month, year, or century -- because I rarely pick longshots.

It's not my type of play to play longshots (but only occasionally).

And this one is one of those rare occasions that I pick a longshot.

This is the first leg of the parlay betting -- so hopefully Xtreme Smoke Show will at least show up to be second today to start off our first leg with a BANG!

This is the 2nd leg.

THE NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL PARLAY CONTINUES

Lady Canterbury Stakes
1 Mile | Fillies and Mares | 3 Year Olds And Up | G STAKES | PURSE: $50,000

6 1/2 Furlongs | Open | 3 Year Olds And Up | ALLOWANCE | PURSE: $110,000

Track: Canterbury Park

Surface: Turf

Race: 3

Horse: Gypsy Reward (ML 9-2)

Field (in post position order):

1. Virtually (ML 15-1)
2. Big Bad Diva (ML 8-1)
3. Gypsy Reward (ML 9-2)
4. Midnight Current (ML 9-5)
5. Scent of Success (ML 5-2)
6. Golden Gopher (ML 12-1)
7. Thunders Rocknroll (ML 4-1)

Midnight Current, 2022 horse of the meet and one of five state-bred fillies and mares in the seven-horse field, is the 9/5 favorite.

She is trained by last year's top trainer Joel Berndt.

She is likely to go off at a very low odd, perhaps around 3/5.

Midnight Current makes her second start of 2024, having finished second in her seasonal debut June 1, 2024, at Canterbury.

However, we're going for an upset with Gypsy Reward (ML 9-2) at a very good price considering Midnight Current is around 3/5.

So bet Gypsy Reward (ML 9-2) to win and place using triple down betting strategy.

Gypsy Reward's final odd will most likely be right around 5/1 somewhat of a longshot in the betting.

Yes, this qualifies as my "Longshot Play of the Week" -- if not for the month, year, or century -- because I rarely pick longshots.

It's not my type of play to play longshots (but only occasionally).

And this one is one of those rare occasions that I pick a longshot.

As stated per "parlay rule", if there is any amount resulted from the first leg you have to bet all of that amount on this leg by budgeting your parlay bankroll and bet this race accordingly using triple down betting strategy.

This is called parlaying the bets -- you have to use all of the money from the previous leg on this leg.

What happens if not enough money (or no money left) for this race using triple down?

You have to decide if you want to put more money into the parlay scheme or not -- it's your money and it's your decision.

If it's my money and my decision, I would put more money into the parlay scheme; after all, it's just any other ordinary bet(s) -- you don't stop betting just because you lose one or two bets -- you continuing on betting in the next legs regardless of what happened in the first or second leg.

That's what I would do, especially the last leg, which is the bread and butter leg -- the leg that pays the bills.

This is the 3rd leg -- the leg that pays the bills.

THE NORTHERN STARS TURF FESTIVAL PARLAY CONTINUES!

Canterbury Derby
1 Mile | Open | 3 Year Olds | G STAKES | PURSE: $50,000

Track: Canterbury Park

Surface: Turf

Race: 7

Horse: Navy Seal (IRE) (ML 9-5)

Field (in post position order):

1. Navy Seal (IRE) (ML 9-5)
2. Bourbon Aficionado (ML 5-1)
3. Hold Your Applause (ML 6-1)
4. Freeze 'Em (ML 6-1)
5. Flat Hanby (ML 8-1)
6. Illustrator (ML 5-2)
7. Tell 'Em I'm Comin (ML 15-1)

The Irish-bred Navy Seal is a cinch in this race as he is towering over the field based on his class and race record, having raced in Ireland, France and most recently at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai where the 3-year-old finished fifth in the Grade 2 UAE Derby on March 30, 2024.

The winner of that race was Forever Young, the undefeated Japanese horse at that time and he was the best horse in this year's Kentucky Derby.

Had he not been interfered by Sierra Leone in the stretch run he would have won the Kentucky Derby.

Based on that alone makes Navy Seal (IRE) a standout in this race.

So today is Navy Seal (IRE)'s first start in the United States and he looks like a locked to me at a very low odd.

So bet Navy Seal (IRE) (ML 9-5) to win.

Yes, that is right: WIN!!!

Navy Seal (IRE)'s final odd will most likely be right around 1-2 as a very heavy favorite in the betting.

Take that easy money 9/5 (or at whatever the price is) and leave the racetrack as a winner.

There you have it: Easy money!

MAKE SURE TO USE ALL OF THE ACCUMULATED MONEY ON THIS LEG!
