TWO-YEAR-OLD RACES ARE IN FULL SWING!
YOU KNOW I LOVE TWO-YEAR-OLDS: THEY'RE THE FUTURE!
This weekend features several 2yo races all over the country in racetracks like Gulfstream, Santa Anita, Belmont at BigA, Churchill Downs, etc.
But the race in particular that I am very excited about is the 4th race at Churchill Downs on Sunday June 1, 2025.
It's a 5-1/2-furlong race for 2yo colts on dirt that is full of high-price and well-bred 2yos with future stars potential.
"Future Stars Potential," that's what get me excited!
One 2yo colt stands out and his name is Cannoneer (by Into Mischief - Catch the Moon, by Malibu Moon).
He is trained by Brad Cox, and he costs $1,750,000 as a yearling.
This 2yo colt is a January foal, and he looks ready to put on a show this Sunday.
His dam, Catch the Moon, produced FOUR graded stakes winners: Girvin, Midnight Bourbon, Cocked and Loaded, and Pirate's Punch.
Girvin is a hot young sophomore sire and produced several winners, including stakes winners.
During his 3yo season (2017), Girvin finished 2nd in the Risen Star, won the Louisiana Derby, enroute to the Kentucky Derby where he finished 13th after encountered traffic problems.
As for Midnight Bourbon, during his 3yo season (2021), he won the LeComte Stakes, finished 3rd in the Risen Star, finished 2nd in the Louisiana Derby, enroute to the Kentucky Derby where he finished 5th.
He also finished 2nd in the Preakness and continued his 3yo season to be 2nd in the Haskell, 6th in the Travers Stakes.
As you can see, there is a reason this colt costs $1,750,000 as a yearling.
He might not win first time out as this race is full of future stars potential; however, judging by his pedigree and trainer profile I think he is ready to break his maiden first time out -- and I expect him to win this Sunday.

Horse: Privman (ML 3-1)
Bet Privman to win and put all of the accumulated money on him because he is going to win this race in a romp. [Mark my word: ROMP !!!]
Privman is a well-bred horse, and he costs $625,000 as a yearling.
Privman made his debut as a 2yo on Saturday June 29th, 2024, race 1, at Los Alamitos, and he finished 2nd as a 6/5 favorite.
He may have some injury setbacks after that race because his next workout was in October 2024 (Privman worked 3f, Oct 20th, in 37.60 (h) finishing 8/12 at Los Alamitos).
He had a consistent pattern of workouts since March 2025, and then he showed up in a race on Preakness weekend (at Pimlico two weeks ago [running six furlongs on Friday May 16, 2025]) where he finished 2nd in a similar condition as this race.
So all indications point out that Privman is sitting on a breakout race, and I will treat him as such and expect him to win this race easily.
Since his last race [at Pimlico two weeks ago running six furlongs on Friday May 16, 2025], Privman had one workout at 3f, May 26th, in 37.80 (b) finishing 5/8 at Churchill Downs.
Note 'finishing' means best of works that day or in this case, 5 best of 8 that day.
Privman has been on my "watch horse" stable for a long time and I think this Sunday he will reward my long wait.
Here are his workouts in the past:
Privman worked 5f, May 8th, in 59.20 (hg) finishing 1/16
Privman worked 5f, May 2nd, in 1:00.20 (hg) finishing 3/15
Privman worked 4f, Apr 25th, in 48.00 (h) finishing 5/28
Privman worked 4f, Apr 18th, in 47.80 (h) finishing 6/50 at Santa Anita
Privman worked 4f, Apr 10th, in 48.20 (h) finishing 5/6
Privman worked 4f, Apr 3rd, in 48.00 (h) finishing 4/15
Privman worked 3f, Mar 27th, in 37.80 (h) finishing 4/4 at Los Alamitos
2024:
Privman worked 5f, Nov 15th, in 1:00.00 (h) finishing 4/32
Privman worked 4f, Nov8th, in 47.20 (h) finishing 4/54 at Santa Anita
Privman worked 4f, Oct 27th, in 47.40 (h) finishing 1/19
Privman worked 3f, Oct 20th, in 37.60 (h) finishing 8/12 at Los Alamitos
Santa Anita workouts (2024):
3f, June 24th, in 37.00 (h) finishing 12/22
5f, June 15th, in 1:00.20 (hg) finishing 5/34
4f, June 7th, in 47.20 (hg) finishing 1/31
4f, June 1st, in 47.80 (hg) finishing 3/73
4f, May 25th, in 48.40 (h) finishing 25/53
3f, May 18th, in 37.40 (h) finishing 18/30
Los Alamitos workouts (2024):
3f, May 10th, in 36.00 (h) finishing 2/10
4f, May 3rd, in 51.20 (h) finishing 9/11
3f, Apr 26th, in 36.40 (h) finishing 3/8
2f, Apr 19th, in 25.40 (h) finishing 3/4
As you can see, Privman has been working out consistently all the way back to April 2024, but the gap between November 2024 to March 2025 is a little of a concern.
Whatever the issue was -- it may have been corrected as evidenced in his work patterns since -- so I'm not that worried about his issues at all.
So all indications are pointing to Privman will break his maiden this Sunday.
